Here we are interviewing Steve Jacobson, who's been receiving Scientology services here since November 2007. Steve is native of Los Angeles. He is a school teacher, a husband and a father. Here, he describes what Scientology has brought to his life and how he used it to create happiness and success in both his personal and professional life.

Steve, tell us how you started doing Scientology.

I got into Scientology because my girlfriend at the time, who later became my wife, was a long-time Scientologist. She was taking courses and going to events, and I finally decided to go to one with her. At the event, I took a Personality Test and had it interpreted The evaluation was so incredibly correct that I asked if there was any way that Scientology could help me.

I was told about the course "How to Improve Relationships with Others", took it and began having immediate success at work in areas that I had never been successful before. The abilities that I gained were instantaneous. I was able to get my communication across to my boss, whom I'd never been able to talk to, and I was better able to understand the viewpoints of others better. This had been an area that was really low on my Personality Test graph.

You arrived at the mission about a year and a half ago and have been receiving auditing on your Grades.

What difference in your life have you observed over this time period?

I am a completely different person than I was a year ago. I'm able to communicate with people better than I ever have been before. I am a better husband and father because of this capability, and as a teacher, I feel that I am one of the more sane adults in the lives of my students. This is evidenced by the fact that so many of them feel comfortable talking to me and asking for help. I find that students whom other teachers classify as "difficult," are not that way with me and I think it's because of my ability to communicate. Another difference in my life is that I'm much more able to handle things in life. I don't get easily rattled, and when I'm busy with many different things, I don't find myself feeling stressed anymore. I'm a more calm person and able to evaluate a situation better and find solutions to problems more capably.

Can you tell us a story about something different in your life as a result of your practicing Scientology?

Scientology is so much a complete way of life, that I have millions of examples, but here goes: About six and a half years ago, a position was available at the school where I'm currently a teacher. I really wanted this position — it was that of the Activities Director. It was apparent that the person responsible for deciding if I could do this had her reservations about me. Instead of worrying, or grumbling about it and waiting to see if she would give me the position, I went to talk to her and found out why she was hesitant. In the past, I may have just allowed her to have her opinion and been unhappy about it, but I decided to be causative instead. I continued on with the conversation until I had fully handled her reservations, and once I had successfully done so, she offered me the job in an instant. I've been working as an Activities Director ever since and it's been a great and fulfilling experience.

Steve, you've been married for fifteen and a half years. Both you and your wife are Scientologists. Do you feel that makes a difference in your marriage?

Of course. We understand each other. We communicate with each other. We listen to each other. We admire each other. We support each other. We apply what we've learned in Scientology to our marriage on a daily basis. We are constantly supporting each other within our marriage so that we can continue to grow. Otherwise, I think we'd stagnate.

Which Scientology tools do you find especially helpful in your marriage?

All the tools are useful. I think the most useful is the ARC Triangle. I know that if we are having a disagreement, it's because Affinity, Reality or Communication has fallen a bit. Knowing that, I can spot which corner and why, and this helps to 'repair' what's not quite correct. This is effective in keeping us 'harmonious.' Even when we disagree, we don't disagree for long, and we both know that there's a solution available.

Your son, Noah, is 13 years old. How is it working out in your family?

We have raised Noah from the beginning as a Scientologist. We give him opportunities to contribute to the family, we've given him the Study Technology, and we've taught him how to live an ethical lifestyle. It amazes me to no end how respectful, responsible and ethical this young man is. There isn't any one example that I can give except to tell you that everyone who meets him comments on how beautifully he behaves and carries himself. He chooses his friends wisely, and even helps them when they might make incorrect choices.
